Vibrant Florals Meet Barn Romance
When modern vibrant floral artistry meets rustic natural warmth, magic happens. Megan and Ellis’s September wedding at Grangefields in Ashbourne was a true celebration of contrast, texture, and floral elegance.
The Setting: Grangefields in Ashbourne
Nestled in the rolling Derbyshire countryside, Grangefields is known for its dramatic oak beams, historic red brickwork, and industrial corrugated accents. As a Derbyshire wedding florist, creating for a venue with such rich texture is a dream. The natural materials of wood, stone, and brick provided a grounded, atmospheric canvas that allowed the wedding flowers to truly pop and shine.
The Vision: Vibrant Juxtaposition & Natural Artistry
To contrast against the warm, dark elements of the barn, we created a vibrant color story brimming with energy. Rather than rigid, formal shapes, all floral elements were designed in a natural, informal style—allowing stems to cascade, arch, and display their natural grace.
The vibrant floral selection included:
Orchids: Striking, modern, and boldly colored (including bright magenta/purple accents).
Dahlias: Lush autumnal texture and rich tones.
Roses: Soft, romantic blush and peach focal blooms.
Amaranth: Dramatic, sweeping green trailing lines.
Anthurium: Architectural and contemporary statement stems.
Bridal Party Florals
The Bride: Megan looked utterly striking in a contemporary strapless gown with textured tulle flower detailing. Her bouquet was a focal point of artful design—combining soft roses and dahlias with statement anthuriums, bold purple cascading orchids, and a dramatic sweep of trailing green amaranth.
The Groom: Ellis wore a classic black tuxedo with a light grey waistcoat, complemented by a soft peach and blush buttonhole.
Bridesmaids & Flower Girls: The bridesmaids carried vibrant hand-tied bouquets that echoed the bride's colour palette and style, while the flower girls wore delicate handmade flower crowns.
Tablescapes: Trestle Table Posies & Candlelight
Following the ceremony in the timber-framed barn, guests gathered around Grangefields' signature long wooden trestle tables.
The informal layout of the trestle tables lent itself naturally to an organic posy style of floral decoration. Rather than tall, heavy centrepieces, we dotted dozens of small glass bottles and delicate posy vases along the entire length of the tables. Each posy contained a curated mix of single-stem anthuriums, dahlias, roses, and airy green foliage. Interspersed with tall taper candles, the flickering light bounced off the metal walls and wooden tables, illuminating the bright pops of flower colour well into the evening.
